  • Rock and Roll Dancing is a partner dance, so you will need a partner to dance most dances.

    You do not specifically need bring a partner to come to the dance lessons though.

    Regardless of whether you have a partner to come with you or not, the most important thing is to come along and have fun! There are always some experienced dancers who will have a dance and guide you through the moves.

    Why not ask your partner, a friend or a family member to join you at the dance lessons? The more the merrier!

  • If you come along with a partner and you prefer to stay together there is no requirement for you to change partners. If you feel more comfortable staying together for the class that is perfectly fine.

    There are definitely some benefits to changing dance partners as it helps you to learn and become more competent.

    Changing dance partners when practicing can help you improve your skills, become more confident, meet fellow dancers and have more fun while you're at it!

  • Choose shoes that are comfortable and supportive and allow you to move freely on the dance floor.

    Look for shoes with a smooth, flat sole that allow you to spin easily. Avoid shoes with a lot of grip or traction such as trainers. Please avoid shoes such as black rubber soled shoes that might leave marks on the floor.

  • In our dance classes we use well known Rock and Roll music from the 1950s to the present day.

    The moves we teach include some Swing, Lindy Hop and Charleston moves that are easily danced to the Rock and Roll tempo; for these dance moves we will play upbeat music that fits the style.

    To us, the term "rock and roll" has come to encompass a wide range of music styles. So, you will certainly be able to dance the moves to music from other eras and genres as well.

    Not all the music played is a fast tempo. Many tracks are a much slower tempo and for these we dance a Stroll which is similar to a line dance and performed either as individuals or as couples.

  • There is a vibrant Rock and Roll community in Wiltshire and the surrounding counties.

    There are live bands playing at local venues on a regular basis where you can get onto the dance floor and practice your moves.

  • Rock and Roll dance is suitable for all ages and fitness levels - you can adjust the moves and tempo to suit your age, fitness and style. You should be aware that Rock and Roll music is fast tempo which makes for an energetic dance style. The lessons are delivered at a slow tempo and you can gradually work your way up to jiving to full tempo Rock and Roll music.
