About Us

What to Expect

Rock ‘n’ Roll is rooted in a fusion of dance styles featuring innovative and energetic movements and inextricably linked to the music of the 1950s. Our dance lessons are a fusion of dance styles that can be danced to music from the 40s, 50s and 60s.  We encourage a freestyle of dancing – we show the moves and encourage you to dance it in your own style.

We aim to initially introduce you to basic jive moves then week by week build on the previous week’s tuition. Each week we introduce new moves that complement and improve the previous tuition so that you progressively become more confident to try out new moves on the dance floor.  There are no scores and no judges!

The lessons are suitable for all abilities from absolute beginners to more experienced dancers who just want to try out new moves.  Rock and Roll is a partner dance so you will need a partner to dance. Whilst bringing your own partner is not strictly necessary, it is definitely beneficial to find a willing person to come along with so that you can enjoy the full evening perhaps each taking turns to act as lead and follower.

In our dance style we mix basic jive with a flavour of swing, lindy hop and Charleston moves all of which can be danced to the Rock ‘n’ Roll music played at Melksham Rock and Roll Club where you’ll be made to feel very welcome.

The ultimate aim is that everyone is able to dance to rock and roll music in a relaxed, friendly environment.  We encourage everyone to come along to the Rock and Roll dance events held regularly at local venues where you can try out your dance moves to a live band.

Martin & Shelagh

We are Martin and Shelagh.  We started dancing six years ago initially doing modern jive then moving on to Rock and Roll Jive, Swing and Lindy Hop.

Our love of dancing has led us to want to pass our skills onto others so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of dance. We spend time learning new moves so we can pass them on to anyone who is keen to learn.

We hope you will join us.
